Hi, there! Thank you for visiting my author profile page, and for your interest in learning more about me.
My name is Navdeep Singh, and I am originally from the vibrant city of Mohali, India. I am half of the duo that makes AbodeAlley.com what is it today; with my wife Daisy being the other half.
Home Management niche is not exactly what I had in mind for our next website project, so let me tell you a bit about my journey, and reveal some threads that led to the creation of AbodeAlley.com.
Let’s Start With the Education
I went to Punjab Technical University in India to pursue Bachelors in Mechanical Engineeing, and did my MBA from Penn State University in the United States.
During the discovery phase of AbodeAlley.com, when I was researching creators of various respectable websites in the Home Management niche, this was not the typical educational background that I often came across. So, one might think its an odd fit!
However, on the contrary, consuming a ton of content in this niche as a reader, I felt mine was a great educational background to start this venture. I believe my educational background has prepared me to cover several home management topics with greater rigour than most popular resources in this niche tend to to cover.
For example, here are few things important to the home management niche that I have an educational background in:
- Advanced Chemistry: Be it looking through the ingredients of a cleaning product for its effectiveness, or understanding the harmful effects of a pest control solution, advanced chemistry is a must know. As part of my engineering curriculum, this is something I was exposed to at great length.
- Core Engineering Concepts: Having strong engineering foundation is essential to talk about various home appliances and systems. This is another area where my engineering background comes in really handy.
- Home Investments and Finances: To run a perfect blog on Home Management, while understanding the “how to” part of something is important, equally important is the financial aspect of those decisions. These are places where my learnings from MBA can be greatly leveraged.
Double Clicking on the Professional Experience
Professionally, I have had an opportunity to work in a diverse array of fields. Post completing my engineering studies, the first full-time job that I took was in Project Management for a large industrial construction company.
In this role, I project managed construction for several large scale industrial complexes. This involved everything from managing timelines and schedules to negotiating construction contracts with third party vendors.
The industrial complexes for which I project managed construction involved construction activities of several different types. This ranged from the construction of machinery/production plant itself to its office complexes, and further to the housing complexes for its employees. This well rounded exposure, makes me comfortable to talk about a variety of DIY projects one could think about in home management niche.
Furthermore, in this role, I was responsible for building various tools, systems and processes that helped my company optimize on costs. This is another experience that I can greatly leverage in creating valuable content for the readers in home management niche.
Post MBA, I have primarily been in Product Management and Analytics roles, which is somewhat a different space, but it allows me to understand the needs of our reader base better – so is helpful nonetheless.
Diving Into the Relevant Personal Exposure
In addition to the relevant educational and professional background, it was my exposure to different houses and home management issues that got me interested in the home management niche.
Even excluding any relocations I went through as a kid (and, there were a ton of these), I have relocated more times than many of my peers even as an adult. This was partly due to the nature of my work in the early days, and later due to the personal and career decisions that I made.
This constant relocation gave me exposure to living in different house types in a variety of different geographies. From snowy Pennsylvania to sunny California, and from small apartment living to living in single family homes and townhouses – I have experienced it all!
It is this diversified exposure that I feel will allow me to speak from the personal experiences when writing about various topics regarding home management. This was another reason why I choose to work on AbodeAlley.com with Daisy.
But, How Did AbodeAlley.com Came To Be?
I have always had a passion for content creation, and it is not something new to me. In fact, Daisy and I cofounded our first venture IndiaText.net – which offered free preparation material for several competitive examinations – back in 2008. While we ultimately sunsetted this website in 2016, it opened gates for several other website projects for both Daisy and me.
Besides AbodeAlley.com, TradeVeda.com is the largest website that I have worked on, and DataScienceNerd.com would be Daisy’s largest website.
Ever since we shut IndiaText.net down, we have both been separately active in content creation space, but have really missed the opportunity to work on something together.
So, for this new website project, we wanted it to be something that we can both collaborate on.
After much contemplation and consideration, home management was the niche we settled on – and that is how AbodeAlley.com was born!
My Hobbies and Interests
Besides content creation, I feel extremely passionate about personal finance and investments. It was the interest in this space that led me to create TradeVeda.com, which in addition to AbodeAlley.com is a high focus project of mine.
For this reason, when not working, you would find me deep into a stock chart analyzing whether an investment opportunity is the right fit for me.
I also enjoy going out on a few hikes every week. When you live in the bay area, incorporating short hikes into your everyday schedule is not too difficult, and this is something Daisy and I have been taking good advantage of.
